CareVision

Social care is a large industry that predominantly employs women, and where there is a high prevalence of ethnicity.

Social care jobs are not highly paid and yet it doesn’t deter people from joining. During my recruitment I spoke to three ladies and each and every one had their own story to tell of why they wanted to join Jawa Group. The common denominator appeared to be that they all had an asset, a very valuable asset, which was kindness, empathy and understanding. One young lady said “I am born with this, this is innate in my family. That’s how I was brought up. I do not have formal qualifications but one thing I can assure you of, that I am ‘kind and compassionate’. No one can take this away from me but instead I can share it with everyone, and this is my qualification”.

As head of an organisation I regularly carry out supervision, quality assurance but it has never before occurred to me whether we should in our assurance form mention displaying kindness. This is an attribute that is taken for granted. While it cannot be taught, we can learn to bring it out this natural trait from ourselves and our colleagues. I would encourage more of us to recognise the importance of this phenomenon in the Jawa Group.
